Wiki Leaks Vs The Banks

March 13, 2012, by

For our Forbidden books class Milestone 3 we worked with a Wiki Leaks case. My case was the Banking Blockade.
The one word that explains my case is perseverance.
I chose that word because even though Wiki Leaks is unable to use 95% of their funds, they are still publishing cases and informing the public. People should know about this case because the governments are trying to shut down Wiki Leaks by cutting off their money and if we know how to help we can stop that from happening.

Milestone 3- Narration

Slide One
Essence
This case is about the Banking Blockade that is happening. 95% of Wiki leaks funds have been cut off and they have been in a money crisis ever since. My picture is representing Wiki Leaks Vs Bank of America. I wanted to represent Wiki Leaks Vs.Bank of America because it is the main company imposing the lock down. All of the other companies involved such as VISA, MasterCard, Pay Pal and Western Union are more like by standers of the lock down since they are only partners of Bank of America and are not the ones with the power to freeze the bank accounts.

Slide Two
Censorship
People censor things because they want to shield us from ourselves, hide all of out faults, and pretend we all are perfect. This means that the government wants us to live in a fantasy world in which we all pretend that no humans do anything that could be thought of as unacceptable. My picture is showing window and blue part is showing that it is glass and you can see straight through it to what is on the other side. The dark blue part shows that you can’t see through or what’s on the other side. Just like with censorship you only see what they want you to see.

Slide Three
Importance
It is important that we know about this because it means that the government is trying to get rid of wiki leaks by killing off their funds. We need to also need to know so that we can help Wiki leaks alive. What’s happening in the world effects us all directly or indirectly. We need information to make decisions and to make the right ones we need all the information. My picture is an example of each rode that we can take. One road leads us to a box where we trap our thoughts, but another road leads past any stops so that we can achieve all.

Slide Four
Economics
The are major economic implications from this case because Wiki Leaks can barely access any of their money. This could cause the whole Wiki leaks website/ Organization to shut down. My picture is how i think a Bank of America might look. There are assistants upstairs working and downstairs deep in the basement is where there money is kept. The dialogue is a conversation of a Wiki leaks staff member trying to get some of their money out.

Slide Five
Connection
My quote is “Centralisation of the means of communication in the hands of the state” ( Communist Manifesto p26) I showed this quote in my picture by drawing a circle of people that could only talk to each other through the government. This would also mean that we would only know what the government wants us to know because they won’t necessarily pass on all the information, or the right information. So basically they can censor any information we have.

Slide Six
Why
I chose this quote because i think it really connects to the idea of censorship when it say communication through the hands of the state. My picture is like the one on the connection slide except there is no government official in the middle passing messages. This means we will always no everything because there is no one dictating what we know.

Slide Seven
Wiki Leaks
Wiki leaks is important because it is a great source of privileged information. My picture is showing a news paper with the wiki leaks headline. I chose to draw this because it symbols us reading wiki leaks everyday and being updated on all the events. This is important to us because we need information to grow.

How dare you burn this book!!

March 12, 2012, by

People should read the book The Golden Compass because it is a book that can put you in whole new worlds of imaginations; I wrote “imaginations” in the plural, because the main character adventures herself between world worlds, full of fantasy.

From this podcast, I learned that this book’s idea of how the daemons (animal souls) are portrayed goes against the Catholic religion — and that is why the book was censored.

It was important to include different voices in this podcast because they bring many diversified thoughts; each person I interviewed had a different story to tell, the same way that people had different daemons in the book.

These different voices made me question:

– Are you ready to discover what your daemon is?

Farenheit 451: Blogs on Fire.

People should read the book because it talks about people who burn books; we can learn about why they burn books, and what they’re trying to accomplish.

From this podcast we can learn that in the past there have been hardships; sometimes they become so large that there is no way around it.

It was important to include different voices because they can join your opinion and second what they think.

This podcast made me think:

– Would you burn any book?

Burn this Book!

This podcast is about Fahrenheit 451, by Rad Bradbury.  This book is about stopping diversity because they try to make everyone think and act the same way by censoring books and all multimedia, except from what the government comes out with.  I’ve learned how big of an impact censorship can do, if it gets out of hand.  It was important for me to add multiple voices to my podcast to give completely different unbiased ideas about censorship.  Reading this book has made me think of what a world without literature would look like.

WARNING! This audio review contains dangerous contents.

March 12, 2012, by

People should read the book The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian because it is very captivating and  interesting to hear a story about a Native American boy trying to get a better education for himself. From this podcast, I learned that Native Americans go through a lot difficult situations. The main character, Arnold Spirit, goes through a lot to reach his goals. It was very important to include different voices in this podcast because it is healthy to get to get different views of the book. These different voices made me question how many Native Americans in the world live the same life as Arnold Spirit.

HD’S podcast on a dangerous book

People should read the book Fahrenheit 451 because it is a creative approach on censorship of literature in the future that everyone should read and learn about. From this podcast I learned that the government in this book burns books, because they believe that, without censoring books with controversial thoughts, everyone’s thoughts will be too diversified. It was important to include different voices in the podcast because it is showing clear ideas of diversity through the thoughts of others. These different voices made me question why the book was even censored in the first place.

Audio-Review of the Golden Compass by ZP

People should read The Golden Compass because this book represents freedom of speech. From this podcast, I learned that this book was censored because of the Catholic church; the church felt that the book was demeaning their authority and religion.
It was important to include different voices in this podcast because it gives people a chance to speak their own minds. These different voices gave me a better understanding of why the Catholic church wanted the book censored.

MML’s Audio Review of The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian

March 12, 2012, by

People should read the book The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian because there are moments when the book is joyful and moments when it was sad at the same time. From this podcast, I learned that the book was censored because of foul language and profanity. It was important to include different voices in this podcast because you need different voices to understand different points of view. These different voices made me question if the book was censored for the right reason. Is there a right reason to censor a book.

FB milestone 3 wikileaks case

This project below recaps files that Wikileaks have found and posted on their website about minors going to Guantanamo Bay prison. I believe you should read this story is because you need to know how our country are treating minors at Guantanamo Bay. The United States government said that they only had 3 juveniles being detained their while they actually had 22 for sure and maybe even as much as 28 juveniles.
