The purpose of this Endurance paper was: to “meet” one of the characters that we read about and “talk” to them.

I chose to connect to V.I Warshawski, because she is an detective and I want to be an homicide detective, so I though that was pretty cool.

I am proud of the way that I used her in my story/dialog.

I learned that there is a challenge when you are trying to be someone else — and trying to see what they would see.

Here is an excerpt of my paper:

Friend: New New girl did you just hear that?
New New: Heard what?
Friend: Them gunshots.
New New: Naw. But who got shot?
Friends: I don’t know.Let me go on the porch in see?
New New: Alright.
Friend: New New. You won’t believe it man, but that’s yo uncle
New New: Naw man you playing, don’t say nothin like that.
Friend: I’m being serious. Go look outside in see I’m telling you the truth.

That’s life growing up and Cabrini Green projects, where the sounds of gunshots are the same as school bells when it’s time for the kids to get out of school. As I walked up to him and seen his body and the parking lot inside of my head “he ain’t dead”, he just sleeping peacefully, cause I don’t see any blood on his body, but they told me that he was bleeding internally. Then I finally realize that it’s reality when I heard somebody on the phone talking to the police saying:

The man on the phone: “we need an ambulance we have a man shot dead in the parking lot”
The officer: Okay sir can you tell me what’s your location?
The man on the phone: 1230 N. Burling parking lot.
The Officer: Okay I will send somebody over right away.
The man on the phone: Thank you.

The purpose of my endurance challenge was to say how women speak through dance, like some people say “be seen and don’t be heard”.

I decided to research different types of dances and combine all of them together to come up with one big dance, and record myself doing the dance without words.

The hardest part was trying to get the some of the dances that I really never tried to do before and learn them. Also, just trying to make some of the 20s, so that I can have more time to do other dances and don’t go over the limit, so I can have more time to do other dances that I thought meant “Women Empowerment”.

If I knew it beforehand, I would have probably did something different because this was more challenging than a lot of other projects that I had to do, but at the same time I really like a challenge because it pushes me to know that I could do whatever I want to do, if I put all the effort into it.

I am proud of myself for learning new dances, because I am not a big fan of learning new things. I am a hip hop dancer and the types of dances that I learned put me outside of the box, doing something new. Some of the dances that I learned are: African dance, Japanese dance, Prays dance, Inspirational dance. I combined all together and made them into one big dance.

We went to Sandbox Industries to learn about up coming businesses and marketing financial plans. We also went to present our business plan to get feedback from people that have more experience than us. This helps us fix our business plan.

How can we improve our business plan?
Work more on the financial plans and fundraising to get money to travel. Also, this will help us get to the places that we will be going to.

How can we improve our presentation?
We can add more to information about our financial plans and have more practice going over the presentation.

Something that helped was all the questions they asked. On top of that, it helped us think about our business plan even more, and what we wanted to change and what we wanted to stay the same.

For our Student Enterprise course, we went to Vosges to investigate marketing and sales strategy.

Definition of Market:
Katrina who is the founder of Vosges, traveled all over the world trying new spices and brought them back to her company. One interesting thing that I also learned is that she has a chocolate bar that is called a “Bacon Bar”.

Description of product/ services:
The product and services they offer is chocolate. Their clients are all kinds of age groups. They has chocolate for people that like meat and people who don’t like meat.

Marketing/ sales strategy:
Katrina goes around the world to get the spices, but she sells the chocolate in different Chicago areas. She communicates her vision of the company, ” Travel the world through chocolate”.

The purpose of this project was to make a mandala and connect it with the taste of our life: sweet, bitter, sour, salty and spicy. We also had to make a connection with the book we were reading for the course: mine was “Into The Wild”. Last but not least, we had to make another connection with “Prison and Freedom”.

I made an mandala out of books.
I chose to do this type of mandala because I wanted to do something different than everybody else, so I did it with books and the books had to be blue, green, yellow, and red, because all the colors mean something.

I learned you can work with books with a lot of different ways and still learn something: you can also learn from the outside of the books.
The part that I am most proud of is that I came up with something by myself, and everything came out as a success.

In my disease class, we studied an equation that is R=L/A and we had to do something creative like come up with a poem or a rap. This project sums up everything that we have learned about the disease course.

Looking into something call REAL is where I got the letter R from
Then looking into the sky I see the letter L saying just let us LIVE
The letter A yelling AIR
Just breath please

I’m trying to use this equations to solve death
The equation of R=L/A
We have people dying left and right
Up and down

All kind of deadly diseases going round
Lets try and stop this disease cause its bring the parents down
Because its very deadly
Killing the young before they can get old

Killing the old
Cause what they was doing when they was young

It hurts me to see the smiles on the kids faces
Turn into frowns

Because of what that person disease did
Did to there mother
A mother of a child

We need others to speak out
Help out
Think out

Because what
HIV/AIDS
Black plague
Malaria
Gonorrhea
Syphilis
Tuberculosis
Spanish flu

Is doing to our community
Our wold
We have the opportunity
To open our mouth and let words flow out
We need to help people who can’t help their self

Lets make a change
But before we make that change
We need to change our self
And the way we do things in this world

Lets make that change!

And I also wrote a paper:
The equation R=L/A
We use this equation to show how many people are living with a disease. All the letters mean something different. The letter R means basic reproduction number, the letter L means Average life span of population, and the letter A means Average age of infection. So if you put all those things together, you first have to find out how long would that population live, than you have to divide that with how many people are affected by that disease.

The reason that you can use this equation to solve how many people are affected by that disease and it can also say how many people are most likely to get it. On the other hand, it can tell you how much medication that is needed to treat those infected and how much health care would be needed, accommodations they would need. Especially, for the women who are pregnant, because their babies can also catch that same disease that they have.

We can also get the right help that their babies need and we can try to stop the spread of the disease going around, especially HIV/AIDS because it is the most deadly disease in Africa. There are millions of people dying from it, and kids are not living long enough to live their lives and we want to make that change, so that we can see our younger ones grow up because they are the future “us.” (Anetai,. 2007)

The things that we do today impacts us in the future and others that are around us. It can also help or hurt our love ones. If we continue to let this disease spread then the population may decrease and there will be a lot of kids that will grow up without parents and a lot of parents who will lose their children because of mistakes that they have made. (Anetai,. 2007)

To back up my information I found some information the title of the article is Top 10 Infectious Disease That Have Killed Millions Of People

People should read the “Absolute True Diary of a Part Time Indian” because this book displays a racism that we, as a society, have really never focused on before. That is the racism against Native-Americans. We never put Native-American racism in front of the headlights like this book does.

From this podcast I learned that we can build a community around helping stop unknown racism in this country.

It was important to include different voices in this podcast because it helps me feel that there is a community behind this somewhat quiet idea.

These different voices made me question:

– So you think you may be biased to a certain group and not even know it?

People should know about this case, because people read newspapers and should know if they are telling the truth or not. If you discover that a newspaper is telling a story then you would not want to read that newspaper any more.

I learned that some newspapers don’t always tell the truth about things, especially if they are going up against their threat.

2.) What did you do? We asked questions like:

Where does DNA comes from? “DNA comes from the sperm and egg from your mother and father. The cells grow to spread and make more cells.

How can you tell twins apart? “We can tell twins apart by looking at the SNP (Single Nucleotide Polymorphism)”

How many cells are in a human? ” There are millions of trillions of cells in a human body”
