“Culture is memory, daily life and dream.”
“Honestly I really don’t know what culture is. If I had to guess I would say that culture is a bunch of traditions passed down through generations that make a nation what it is. For example, my family is Jamaican and there are a few things that I know about our culture. The oldest sibling is an authoritative figure and you do not call him/her by their first name. Instead, you call them miss/mister and the first letter of their name. For example my oldest sister name is Adenine, so in Jamaica she would be called ‘miss A’ as a sign of respect. If your parents or elders are scolding you, it is considered rude to look them in the eye. In American culture, it is based more around the fact that America is a free country. So, kids act a lot differently. They talk back to their parents, argue, hit them, scream, slam doors, and marry and have children when they feel like. These things would never go over in a lot of other countries. So far this is all that I really know about culture.”

“Culture is a web of understanding that binds people together.”
“The traditions, beliefs, customs, religion, and the way a certain group goes through life with different experiences… that cause different ways of life. Culture makes life not the same; it shows the diversity of life; it makes people not the same and special.”
~ GCE student, Dec 2010
“Traditions within a family, ones that make the world what it is.”
