I wrote this poem for Policy as an extra credit assignment. I think this poem is important because it allowed the class to take the opportunity and express their views on the slide-show that was presented to us. My poem is about the hope that was found for the children living in the CHA public housing and how we make a difference with our actions no matter how small.

Hopeful Destruction
The babies that reside isolated, in the shadows of Cabrini Green stare through the peephole as the men get off the elevator to resume their work.
They wonder if their lives will be more hopeless than in the gated, isolated buildings,
Where injuries from hate crimes are produced by cold hearts only bringing despair
Instead, the men change icy expressions from years of destruction
They renovate and bring in the new resources, putting in effort to create a healthy home
But what happens to the babies? Are they outcasts thrown out on the bare streets and covered up?
Or does it bring a hopeful, bright future?
