At the beginning of the term, we set out to look at the problems in a couple neighborhoods in Chicago and find solutions to those problems. We broke into two teams of four, my team focused on the Pilsen community. When my team and I visited Pilsen, we saw issues involving vacant lots, viaducts, streets and sidewalks that all in some way affected transportation, housing, infrastructure, and services. In class we studied Burnham’s Plan. We reviewed the problems and solutions he examined and tried to fix. Then, we tried to mimic his process by analyzing Pilsen’s problems and creating solutions.Our findings and ideas are in the video below.
