The Neuroscience of Learning workshop enriched and enlightened my perspective of teaching. Dr. Prasad provided us information on why, what, where and how our brain functions in a learning process. By meticulously examining the brain, we can understand how certain learning disabilities (ADHD, Autism, etc.) handicap reasoning. More importantly, we learned techniques to help students overcome their disabilities.
I’m very excited to work with GCE this summer. I look forward to help build a math/science curriculum based upon the teaching techniques we acquired from Dr. Sapna Prasad and Landmark College. Some of the teaching techniques I would like to use include:
1) Experiential learning
2) Usage of our senses (touch, smell, sight, feel and taste)
3) Seeking emotional appeal and relevance of material
4) Usage of group projects/partners
5) Hands on experiments
