Below is my Public Service Announcement (PSA) regarding the Infectious Bursal Disease Virus in Antarctica. I will be also touching on how penguins get this virus from humans and cargo. I created this PSA because I wanted to spread the word on this virus that lowers the mortality rate for penguins.
Infectious Bursal Disease Virus (IBDV) is a disease that humans give to penguins by skin or cargo in Antartica. This disease has been lowering the mortality rate for penguins for the past 15 years. There is an easy way to prevent giving this disease to penguins, and that is to stop making large contact with a species that we don’t have to be in contact with. By us trying to connect to this species, we are also killing it. Just make that small change, stay home and let them live. Don’t let the food chain break.
