In our Global health cure class, we learned why matter is characterized in medicine. We learned about this by creating a 3-d molecule of our assigned medicine. We learned about what element compounds are used to create this medicine. Also, we researched what it treats and how it’s classified. The medicine that I researched is Olanzapine.
Olanzapine is used to treat the symptoms of schizophrenia in adults and teenagers 13 and older. It is also used to treat bipolar disorder in adults and teenagers 13 and older. Olanzapine is in a class of medications called atypical antipsychotics. It works by changing the activity of certain natural substances in the brain, (NCBI.nlm.nih.gov, 2011).

White=Hydrogen
Blue=Nitrogen
Yellow=Sodium
It was helpful to build our molecule to better understand the element compounds of our medicine. What I did to create this was by using styrofoam balls, connecting them with wooden sticks and then color coding them depending on their element.
