For our Civic Engagement unit we focused on the value of “Accountability”. For several weeks we worked vigorously on our mural, attempting to depict what accountability means to us, and living through that value. We felt that by changing the space where the mural is, we were taking accountability and responsibility for that space and making it nicer. By doing that we were proving a theory of placemaking, and also displaying how others could apply it in their communities. To help in the teaching process, we created a lesson and a mico documentary to help guide people through our experience and better learn how painting a mural/making a place can really change a community.
