The purpose of this action project was to show my knowledge of how to calculate how much it costs to change a home’s temperature, using a specific form of energy. I chose to investigate coal, and figure out how much it would cost to change a home’s temperature by five degrees for an entire day, using coal as the energy source. There are many things you can do to decrease energy usage and the amount paid for it. You can reduce the bill by purchasing an efficient air conditioner and furnace, you can get a smaller house, and you can get well-insulated walls. The better insulated the walls, the more heat or cold can be kept inside the home. Nothing surprised me about my home’s electricity bill. I expected it to cost more than Guadalupe’s, and for my family to use more energy than hers did. My expectations were met.
