The first action project for the STEM course Urban Planning was to build a two-foot bridge. After studying examples of trusses and bridges in the area, we designed our own and set about building them. It was a tricky process but we learned a lot about the benefits or downsides of certain materials, and how to select the right ones for the sturdiest bridge. Below are our blueprints, calculations, and a video of the bridge being tested. It supported 18 pounds before collapsing.
