Urban Planning is an integrated science and math course. For my first action project in this course, we were asked to create a bridge that is able to with hold 20 pounds. In this unit we studied bridges and the role they play in a big city. We then related geometry and physics to explain the basic principles of how a bridge functions. We learned about a truss and that it is a structure comprising one or more triangular units constructed with straight members whose ends are connected at joints. Overall this project was difficult, we couldn’t figure out what type of material to use to create this project. We also couldn’t agree on a way of creating the bridge. In the end our group pulled it together and our bridge held over 20 pounds which no other group bridge could do.
