The Rhetoric is Right! HD

The Rhetoric is Right is a game show that we made up to show the three forms of rhetoric, Pathos, Logos and Ethos. We did so by me, the game show host, asking the three contestants questions and they answered depending on if they were pathos, logos or ethos. I am very proud of my game show host voice. I feel like my group and I delivered a group performance. The video below is our game show. Enjoy!

“What’s a Jared without the fat”?!

For my last project in action in my Art of Rhetoric class, I did a 3 1/2 minute skit showing good usage of persuasion. In the skit a director and manager( I play the manager) try to convince a actor to sign a contract that requires him to gain 300 pounds. Doing this assignment I learned different techniques to win a conversation such as, drooping the c bomb (telling a very unexpected thing).  Below is my link to the video. Check it out! You will enjoy it.

As our final project for Art of Rhetoric, we created a skit that showed rhetoric.  We spent all trimester studying the different elements of rhetoric so this way a great way to wrap it all up.  At first, my partner and I struggled to come up with an idea we felt was funny and fun to watch but also did a good job of displaying our element of rhetoric.  Finally, we came up with an idea and filmed it.  I’m proud of this project because it wasn’t exactly easy to do but I think we reached our personal goals and also the requirements of the project.  It was also so fun to create.  Check it out below!

For our final assignment in our Art of Rhtoric class we had to create a trailer for the class incorporating what we learned. My group decided to create a game show where we would use what we learned about logos, ethos, and pathos through converation topics. The object of the game is for each contestant to use their set mode (ethos/pathoslogos) to win a conversation topic. Below you can see the script as well as the video of us in action.

~Continuing the Journey~

For my Art of Rhetoric class we are learning about Logos. We are testing every thing we have learned about with our Unit 3 project. For this project we are using an essay question from a college we are applying to. I chose to write one answering a question about leadership. I am proud of the decisions I made and my ability to take constructive criticism to improve my essay. Below is my essay. Enjoy!

6 seconds~Spread the word

In our Art of Rhetoric class, we are discussing pathos. For our Action project I am researching a topic that interests me and creating a platform to express it to other people. Then we created a call to action that can be measured. For my project I am trying to spread the awareness of HIV through a presentation. I recorded the presentation and turn it into a video asking people to share it with 6 friends in 6 seconds. Below is the presentation.

Resume – AW

November 2, 2012, by

Our first project as action for Art of Rhetoric was to create our own resumes. This was an exercise in understanding, and then presenting, our own ethos. Before beginning we considered what our skills, interests, and experiences included. Then, once we were familiar with the look of a professional resume, we began to compose our own. After weighing the various criteria for a resume we created a rubric, which we then used to critique our classmates’ rough drafts. Click the image below to see a larger version of the feedback I received on my first draft.

With that feedback we revised the resumes, and added references and objective statements, which had not been included in the originals. Throughout the process I felt very conscious that this was something I would at some point be presenting not just to my peers or teacher, but to a possible future employer. It was difficult to write about myself and know how to format that information, but as we worked on it I gained more confidence and I now have a much better understanding of how to present myself as a skilled candidate for a position. Below is a copy of my final resume:

For our final project as action in Art of Rhetoric, we were put in groups and asked to make skits showing the different dimensions of rhetoric such as logos, pathos and ethos and the eight modes of development. Our group created the video below! Enjoy!
